Kandor Modelmakers
About UsWe began in 1981 with the ambition of establishing a professional modelmaking company with the emphasis on quality and reliability. Based in central London, we have been one of the leading model-making companies for many years, serving architects, designers, engineers, government departments, corporations and planners both in the UK and abroad.
Kandor's team of modelmakers supplement their hand skills with sophisticated machinery such as CNC cutting and profiling, vacuum forming, photo-etching, screen printing and laser cutting to create detailed accurate models in our custom designed building.
How we workFor any project one of the first steps is to understand the client's requirements. From discussions and meetings we will then be able to advise on the best and most effective way of achieving the desired requirements. We use drawings, either hard copy or digital supplied by architects, our preferred format is AutoCAD dwg. When relevant information for model construction has been assembled, we will then be able to present the client with a detailed specification and costings.
We pride ourselves on our professional approach to modelmaking, our technical innovation and craftsmanship. This enables us to achieve the highest standards in a demanding and competitive market.
Architects and designers are welcome to inspect their model at any time during construction and we advise all clients to view their model prior to delivery and photography.
Model making
Building and detailingDepending on scale and required detail, nearly all buildings and structures are fabricated from acrylic plastics, metals, wood and veneers. Various elements and details are then CNC machined, laser cut, hand profiled, cast and photo-etched etc. Finishes, in plain colours or to simulate actual materials are achieved using various spray painting techniques.
BaseModel baseboards are generally constructed for strength and rigidity. For some larger baseboards aluminium 'skinned' honeycomb boards are used to save weight. Features such as roads, pavings, water, grassed and landscaped areas with laser-etched patterns are applied, with fibre optics and other lighting techniques fitted.
LightingMost models are now illuminated to add life and drama. In some cases individual rooms, flats or specific elements are linked to a switch pad or remote control. The model now becomes an important tool to enhance your presentation. Lighting effects and control systems are incorporated with timer and circuit protection.
